Media notes
Note the high-fidelity robin imitations. [EDIT: This shrike is engaging in aggressive mimicry.]
Observation details
I believe it's a first-winter bird by the heavy scalloping on the breast. It moved from treetop to treetop before flying off to the north. We were amazed by the song, decently audible in the video associated with this record (ML624660477). [EDIT: I have subsequently learned that this Northern Shrike is engaging in the behavior known as aggressive mimicry.] [FURTHER EDIT: I have uploaded ML643617024, extracted from ML624660477, to document this interesting vocalization. Bec. I know a lot of folks would search for shrikesong via Macaulay audio, not Macalauy video.]
