We were monitoring mist nests for a Kuhl's Lorikeet (or Rimatara Lory) conservation project. We translocated group of 27 from Rimatara in French Polynesia to Atiu in the Cook Islands in 2007 to establish a second reserve population as a hedge against extinction. The current effort is a population census and follow-up health assessment. While monitoring the nets, I recorded this pair of Kuhl’s Lorikeets in an Albizia tree. Other birds in the area included Cook Islands Fruit Dove, Chattering Kingfisher, and Atiu Swiftlet, but exact numbers were lost when a TSA agent discarded my field notebook.
Additional notes are in the recording annotation.
