Media notes

This bout of yelps was the third heard from this bird. The first of 6 yelps was given from the SW after I gave a 30-sec bout of NSWO song. After my second such bout, a bird responded with two yelps somewhat closer to the west, and after my third bout, these three yelps were heard at close range to the NW. Given that the bird was responding to my whistling, I've logged this below as "Playback Used."

Observation details

At stop #1 (2.4), a saw-whet owl yelped 5 times in the moderate distance to the SW after my first bout of NSWO song. After my second bout, an owl yelped twice to the west and closer than the first vocalization. After my third bout, a saw-whet yelped 3 times very close to the NW. Then a couple of minutes later (during the 10th minute), a saw-whet gave a burst of chittering as it flew from NW of me to the SE. I stayed an extra 5 minutes at the stop, and gave a couple bouts of NSWO song during the first two minutes. After the second bout, a owl yelped 3 times very close to me to the NE, and 15 sec later, a second owl gave a burst of chittering as it flew past me south to north just east of my car.
