Observation details
The willet (Tringa semipalmata, ssp. inornata) had mottled gray-brown upper parts and a white rump and tail with a brown tip. The broad white stripes contrasting with the dark areas of the wings were visible in flight. In my opinion, it is a Western Willet, which has a longer, darker bill with no pink base, is less heavily barred, and is larger and paler than the eastern semipalmata subspecies. The willet was foraging In a mudflat at the southwest corner of Pond 1W.
