Observation details
At least one continuing since Mike Hearell reported it on Sep 18. Two juveniles seen well and photographed along the southwest and south shoreline; total of four (age unknown on two) scoped in the distance in a single scan appeared to be the same size and with similar flight behavior. All with striking, crisp, color-block black, gray and white 'M' pattern on upperwings. One juvenile with a gimpy left leg having difficulty feeding along the shoreline and flaps constantly. Thin black bill; white face and underparts; gray crown from about halfway back through nape and spilling onto breast-sides; pink legs. Blackish subterminal band on inner secondaries visible; black terminal tail band. The other juvenile rested with the gull gang sometimes and showed significant black and white edging on gray uppers. First viewed from the No Fee pullout along SR-32 about 3/4 mile north of the park entrance; then eagle-eye Jon Manwaring joined me in the Pinery Day Use Area where we both scoped and he picked out a third, and then we picked out the fourth. All four seen in the same scope scan a couple times because they were loosely flying together, but never in the same FOV.
