Observation details
In the field, this bird was identified as a Philadelphia vireo. We came upon a group of birders watching this bird in a tree near the boardwalk, and heard them pointing it out to others as a PHVI. At the time, we were content to accept others' word and put the bird down on our checklist as a PHVI. At the time of going through my photos of this trip (8/26/2024), I realized that I did not have any photos of a vireo and instead had many photos of a Tennessee warbler. The bird that I believe others were looking at has a thin, sharp warbler bill and lacks any significant yellow on the underbelly and undertail coverts. It was certainly our mistake to not double check this ID either in the field or soon after, but as we are not familiar with either species, we did not realize the misidentification until now!
