Media notes

Presumed Black-whiskered Vireo song at 09:28 on Ravine trail. Houston Arboretum, Houston, TX.

Observation details

Heard several times singing, first around 8:30, then at 9:30, on ravine trail close to parking lot and the metal boardwalk. Recorded. Short, snappy, 2-3 note phrases; also scold call. Seen by others (with views of black whiskers), but I did not see it clearly. Song in pairs of two-note phrases is correct pattern for Black-whiskered, but Merlin ID’d recording as Red-eyed. I think I may hear a Red-eyed song in the background of the BWVI song recording, which I did not hear at the time.

Additional species

  • Northern Cardinal (Common) Cardinalis cardinalis [cardinalis Group]
