Observation details
In the Wastewater Treatment Plant near the entrance to the Island. My guess is that something in the water is making the ducks sick and weak because they weren’t flinching while a Swamp Harrier dominated 3 different individuals within 15 minutes. It would land on top of the ducks and float while holding the duck under. After some time the harrier would fly off and then do it to a new duck. 3 of the ducks were already dead with one more acting as if it could barely move and will likely die soon too. Another duck got beat up very badly but managed to swim away. The 2 ducks that I thought were still in good condition didn’t flinch while the harrier flew over and landed on one of them. Something about this didn’t feel right and hopefully those ducks can recover and relocate to a better, safer home. I also noted that none of these ducks were in molt and had all their primaries (so that wasn’t the reason for them not flying).
