Observation details
Continuing at Tobe Springs. Appeared at the springs completely unprovoked at 9:43 pm and stayed briefly. Did not encounter it again during the rest of our time up at the spring. We didn't try playback at all. At 9:43 PM John spotted an owl fly in above the springs as the rest of us were setting up our headlamps. We immediately recognized it as the Saw-whet. White belly with reddish-brown streaks on the flanks and sides and brownish breast. Back and wings were woody brown with a few white spots. Face was disc-like with huge glowing yellow eyes. Subtle white feathers buffered the eyes and beak. Chin reddish-brown. TX #476 and my first-ever visual of NSWO!
