Observation details
Probably 3- two other large darkish birds flushed as I was attempting photos. Audio recorded just very slightly later somewhat up the trail near approximately where this bird had flushed to. Behavior quite typical of Quail-dove; flock split apart while flushing, then shortly thereafter "lost" bird begins calling in attempt to reestablish contact with the other birds. In this case the birds I only detected as flushing dark masses went to the right of the trail, while the photographed bird ultimately flushed down the slope to the left. Noting here that there are a handful of records for White-throated Quail-Dove at Chicaque. I can't hear a significant difference between recordings of the two species in Macaulay, but it's worth noting that birdNET suggests White-throated for this track. Cornell's Birds of the World and this website propose that the two species are "entirely allopatric," but White-throated Quail-dove listed at this location would seemingly require the intervention of an eBird moderator in order to appear in the public record here.
