Observation details
I first heard about this bird many years ago and dreamed of one day seeing it. Once it was back in Newfoundland for another year, I convinced my Dad to fly with me to St Johns, rent a car, drive up to Trinity, and go on a boat tour to search for it on the Atlantic Ocean. Seen with Trinity Eco Tours Capt’n Dean. After 1.5 hours of searching, I finally spotted it sitting on a cliff in the bay, the white shoulder patches and sheer size of the bird is what drew my initial attention. After viewing with binoculars, I was able to see the large orangey coloured bill. Stella then flew from the cliffs edge to a tree across the bay where it remained for the 15-20 or so minutes we viewed it for. Overall large Eagle with white shoulders and massive bill, wedge shaped white tail seen in flight. Worth the trip from Toronto, and a bird of a lifetime in Canada :) Will add a photo.
