Observation details

First time recorded in California. Initially located by a single sharp “tic” call note- to my ear mostly closely resembling an orange -crowned warbler. It responded to a pish popping up into view at about waist level where I was able to see the vermillion red underparts/slate upper parts , white outer rectrices- at this point I proceeded to try and obtain some documentation photos . The bird disappeared for over half an hour while I got the word out to local listservs/telegrams/whatsapp etc. later got some more distant looks of it in the oaks:eukes a little further up the hill: approximately here : 37.73737, -122.48988
