Observation details
An essentially bicolored bird that I believe is either female White-bellied or Black-faced Dacnis: Ridgely suggests isolated females perhaps best left unidentified. Dull olive-gray above and dull yellow below; somewhat paler at the throat. Piercing yellow eye and triangular dagger bill. Very few decent photos of females of these species in eBird in the region, and these are quite good, so I will continue working on an i.d. (Perhaps obviously there are far less images of the distinctly rare White-bellied.) Both have records from Naineku. UPDATE 20240728 I have changed the species designation in response to an email from Amazonas, CO ebird moderator Jorge Muñoz Garcia, to the effect that in his view this is a White-belied Dacnis. Given the very few photographs of (presumed) female dacnis of this sp. and gaps in the literature (at least the literature I have at my disposal) I'm glad to be able to clear this up.
