Observation details
** Rare especially for time of year and uncommon for county. Large swans along western bank of lower Niagara River. Good though distant scope views, lighting was ideal for diagnostics. Heavy set bodied, slight curvature of long neck and positively all black bill sans orange ie. MUSW. Only by reviewing cropped photos was able to determine size, shape and general giss. Bill complete black, long and wedge shaped evenly sloping from forehead. No knob or hint of gray. Appearance of straight line of facial skin through to lores and apparent "V" shape at base. No yellow tags as is common with Provincial birds of neighboring Ontario. And time frame of Tundra Swans highly unlikely. Digiscoped and cropped photos for diagnostics TBA.
