Observation details
Continuing in the same location it’s been in for close to a week, on the inner breakwater, just off from the end of Johnson’s pier, slightly to the right of the diagonal sign. A large, mostly white sulid with a yellowish orange cast to the head and neck. It has a large, pale bill with black outline and black wing tips. The bird was much larger than nearby Brant’s cormorants and western gulls. (I would have loved a direct size comparison to a brown pelican but none were in the same scope view.) I never saw it fly. It spent most of its time preening and did flap its wings a few times.
