Media notes
Common Raven was bothering Mississippi Kite which resulted in a few vocalizations - two captured on this recording.
Observation details
Continuing in Deodar at the northeast corner of the ball fields shortly after we arrived. After about 15 minutes the kite flew south and perched on a bare snag about half a mile away, but we could still see it in the scope. Rose located the snag with the kite at the corner of Lone Pine and Mountain View. We went there and observed it for about an hour as it perched, flew around, and interacted with Common Ravens. It called a few times, and Chris got an audio recording. And it was still there when we left that area to continue birding the sports complex. Immature molting into adult plumage. Slender raptor with kite shape. Gray head with black around eyes, red eyes. Mostly gray back and breast, with some remaining rufous-and-white streaking on belly and sides. Dark squared-off tail with two pale tail stripes visible from below. From above, wings darker gray than head, with brown tones.
