Observation details
Pair on publicly inaccessible property. This species historically breeds in very small numbers along the South Fork Kern here. Large Myiarchus with long, thick bills, bright yellow bellies, and extensive rufous cleanly extending to the bottom of the rectrices. Calls distinctive; lower, slower, and more rolling than the ATFLs they were aggressively interacting with. Classic “whip!” calls. Photos and audio
