Observation details
Unexpected surprise. First time I see this species at Lago di Vico. Saw a cormorant swimming far on the NW end of the lagoon visible from the elevated hide. I assumed it was a Great Cormorant as there were a couple around. Then I noticed it was smaller than the Mallard it swam close to, so I put it in the scope and noticed the short stubby bill. It was feeding in a way I never saw Great Cormorants using, somehow skimming the surface with the bill and occasionally plunging the head down in the water to grab small prays. Some bad ID pictures TBA, including one with the bigger Mallard for size comparison.
