Observation details
Continuing rarity, visiting the Newburgh waterfront since May, for the 3rd consecutive year. Many thanks to Bruce Nott who gave us updates of his earlier sightings and also generously offered to meet us on site. We arrived high tide and saw it perched with DCCO and RBGU on a metal railing by the Global North Terminal. Bruce told us that at low tide, it can also be found on the wood pilings that are just west of this structure. Description: Noticeably smaller than the DCCO next to it, V-shaped white border at base of bill. No longer in full breeding plumage. We viewed the bird from the east end of Quassaick Creek, as well as from the E side of River Road, looking through the GNT fence. A scope is recommended when viewing from the road.
