Observation details
Dale let me know yesterday (June 29) that one egg had hatched around 6 pm and did we want to come see? On June 30, the weather was wicked, 13 Celsius with strong winds, 8/8 cloud cover and threatening rain, but Brian and I took our son, Lyall and his wife Lauren and two young sons Jack and Teddy from Cleveland, to see the very special event. From the shoreline and dock, we saw one parent on the nest and the other just outside the bay. As we watched, the parent in the water swam to the nest platform and the chick came out from under the other parent's wing. It made it's way to the edge of the platform and plopped in the water, joined by the second parent. We moved off the dock back to the shore and the trio swam past the dock just out of the bay. There, one parent dove and returned with a minnow, which it fed to the chick. They were still swimming when we left. We wondered about the second egg in the nest. Photos on eBird.
