Observation details
1 M 1 F. The oddest birds yet to stop at my feeder. They arrived at the feeder area from the W with 4 robins. They didn’t hop into the feeders but were eating seeds that had fallen from them. When they were intimidated by something they would retreat into the redosier dogwoods, then hop back into the open once the threat was gone. It was great to see both M and F up close. The male mustn’t have been in full breeding plumage yet (or still molting from juvenile plumage?) because I could see rusty stripes on its belly and back, despite the whole front of the bird (head, nape, bib around the front neck and breast) being completely black. It was a pleasure to have these two in the yard. Maybe they will stick around through the blizzard.
