Observation details
careful study with scope for as long as I wanted. what caught my eye was the white stripe down the foreneck on an o/w slam-dunk adult LBH. feather wear was considered but that doesn't make any sense, plus I've never seen this in the thousands of adult LBHs I've observed through the years. this adult heron was foraging with a typical juvie LBH. other details noted were a longer and more slender bill than is typical for LBH, and perhaps subtle pale hues on the belly and shins. photos.
