Observation details
Singing on territory just south of the high point of the Eagle View Trail, with the big view to the south. On a steep south-facing hillside of scattered mountain mahogany and one-seed juniper with grass cover in the open areas. Recordings and photos. Small and drab Spizella sparrow with eye ring, pale malar and supercilium, crown streaked brownish gray, and less distinct eyeline than CHSP which did not extend onto the lore, underparts unmarked pale grayish underparts, Gave series of dry buzzing notes which shortened and rose in pitch as the longish song continued. Not as varied a song version as many I've heard singing in Colorado. A chipping Sparrow was on territory nearby. One photo included without the bird to show overall habitat.
