Observation details
Unexpected, although there have been lingering adult(s) into safe dates. Looks mostly like a non-breeding plumaged adult, but with downy feathers sticking out around head and shoulders -- running around the edge of the pond with no tending adult in sight. Flew about 2 feet, exposing the white stripe thru the wing and stiff-winged flight profile.
