Observation details
Possibly four individuals. This whole report started with the first picture attached that my neighbors, Joe and Diane McGovern, sent to me of an injured bird (missing a wing) in the HOA gardens. I went down to look for it but couldn't find it. On my second visit after putting on some more appropriate clothing, I heard a Cooper's and saw one (same?), flying away from a rather large tree. On further investigation, I found a nest with a couple of birds going after (eating?) something deep in the bowl of the nest. Then I went to get my camera and bins... On the third visit, I saw two birds perched near the nest. At first the perched birds looked enormous to me, like Red-tails, but when I got inside to look at the pics, although the tails were a bit short they indicated Cooper's Hawk. Thanks to Zach S-W for his assistance.
