Observation details
(Rare): “unreported” 🍅: Recordings of short song sets, of cont. bird first reported here 9:18am this morning. Vireo with yellow on forehead (supposedly spectacles) and yellow flanks, white wing bars, thick dark bill, and white eye set in rim. White iris. — — When we arrived half dozen birders were already spread out along road, so prob hadn’t seen it in a while? Gary said it had last been seen by present birders at approximately same spot where then 10:24am briefly spotted by Courtney, seen well, near eye level in shrubbery on south side of road at (42.3822912, -76.3899347). — — 10:26a sang a few phrases from here, recorded, ho s by many, then silent again. — 10:31a returned to same spot but then flew w. a little, out of sight, but then “Tom seeing it well below” as he is standing in flowing creek. Looks from where he’s looking like it flew to other side of creek (42.3821488, -76.3900547) onto island. — — Seen again by some and singing again 5 min. later down in Japanese knotweed under European alder of island (42.3821949, -76.3902626). Then lost again, not refound for remainder of our time here. — — New county bird for us! — — Dave and Gary said WEVI might be found one annually in county but that usually hard to see or refind. We are glad we got to see and hear this one today (only our 2nd ever seen and 1st ever heard) esp since just failed again to find the WEWA …
