Observation details
*Very rare and local breeder in the state. Excellent habitat but one of the farther east records of CCSP attempting to breed in NY. Beautiful adult bird singing its heart out near the Nielson Farm, often landing close to the edge of the grassland area but remaining quite hidden for most of the time. Song was the classic two to four trilly buzzes that is quite reminiscent of a vermivora song. Svelte little spizella with bold, pale malar, gray nape, detailed crown, and buffy plumage. Many thank to Brad Carlson for a great find and to Jeanne Cimorelli, Robert Buckert, and Nick Hoffman for their quality reports for relocation. Photos and audio
