Observation details
Continuing bird; reported by Stephen P yesterday. Tis the season for pale washed-out, molting, ragged “white” gulls, but this bird’s size, shape, color, and characteristics look good for a first summer Iceland. Slightly smaller than a Herring and near the size of nearby lesser black-backed gulls, head is slightly smaller and more rounded than LBBG; bill is slightly more narrow and less angular than HEGU or LBBG. Bill looked all dark in the field but a few photos in direct sunlight show it to be paler at the base. All white, worn, wings to tip and pale barring on underside of tail.
