Observation details
Medium large white turn with black cap, black bill, black feet. Bill is thick and appears relatively short for its size. Buoyant swooping flight behavior with steep dives like other turns, but then only skims the surface of the water and does not go into the water. When visible and not further out on the prairie, seen foraging mostly 100 to 200 m from the gate, just after where the channel curves to the right. A few times it flew closer toward the gate in clear view, as close as 20 ft away. Lifer! Continuing since it was found yesterday. FYI you may have to wait a while for it to come back into view from wherever else it goes, if it continues to stay.
