Observation details
Continuing from earlier this morning; discovered by Sasha C. Thank you, Sasha!! :)) Chunky vireo with an olive-yellow head; bright yellow spectacles, and throat that bleeds down to its upper breast and shoulders against bright white underparts; grayish shading on its face around its spectacles; medium grayish wings with white wingbars; bluish gray bill and legs; short, narrow, gray tail; white undertail coverts. I did not get to see its back. 1102 to 1106 – we first heard it singing in the area above the bridge, west of the playground (33.6328063, -117.8059502). Unfortunately, we didn’t get to isolate the tree it was singing from and had to wait about 5mins until it started to sing again, in which we found it sitting in a “shorter” Euc, top canopy, with tons of dried seed pods. It would perch, hardly move, and mostly obstructed in the clusters. I saw it pick off something in the pods, presumably an insect, eat it, and then wipe its bill on the branch. Silent when perched, and would move slowly through the foliage; however, its range is extensive, and flew out from one tree, and proceeded south along the creek, disappearing into the canopies. About 20mins later, we heard it again in the same general vicinity in a tall Euc, but I was not able to get another visual.
