Observation details
As I was driving east on Rt. 6, I noticed two adult Sandhill Cranes off to my left, foraging in a meadow next to SGL 306. As I had never seen Sandhill Cranes in Warren County before today, I turned around to get voucher photos with my smartphone. I realize the photos are terrible, but you can at least make out that the two birds are about the size of Great Blue Herons, but are chestnut-colored, not gray. You can tell by their posture and head markings that they are indeed SHCRs. Later in the evening, at a nearby restaurant, the waitress told me she has been seeing THREE cranes together at that spot for at least the last couple of weeks. I am very familiar with this species as I see and hear them occasionally in both Erie and Crawford Counties to the west of Warren County. There are two previous eBird reports of this species in SGL 306. Two birds were seen by Bruce Robinson on 4 May 2022: https://ebird.org/checklist/S108907031 One bird was seen by Travis Suckow and Becky Costelllo on 8 April 2020: https://ebird.org/checklist/S66852052
