NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 1. Bulk reel: 124 Weather: Fair. a) Song: the first 2 phrases are natural. I think the others in this section may be also natural but that is not certain. Quality: 2. Level: +3, -3. b) Song: after playback. Apparently all song is by the male, although the first two phrases may not be. (Note: In the b.g. throughout is heard Hypocnemis cantator.) Quality: 2+. Level: 0. *The male bird singing this song and reacting to playback was collected. However, he fell in the water (shallow, in flooded forest) and the moment he hit the water he was "attacked" by a fish (probably a guabina) and all I finally managed to retrieve was part of the body with one complete wing. A bird that seemed almost certainly to be the female of this pair was collected and recovered intact. On the basis of this female skin (#8208) and the wing of the male, the present identification seems beyond doubt. Habitat: Forest.
