Observation details
LIFER!! most exciting/uncommon find today. while walking along the well shaded road more than halfway from 北门 to 荷花池 ,suddenly a small brown bird landed on the road edge where it there is a small raised area going along the road, first looked through bins and realized it was some sort of flycatcher with an eyering - very exciting and probably new species (although female flycatcher ID would be hard). it then went off the left side of the road to forage and collect nest material (seen in photos) among some small rocks, stayed there for around 10 sec, and looked around, got some photos but autofocus wasn't very cooperative, before going onto a higher but not very far branch fork on nearby tree. I saw almost exactliy where it landed but couldn't see it. I then checked merlin and luckily brown breasted is the only likely muscicapa given the time of year., although I wanted to get more pics and make sure it wasn't a female hainan blue. I played the only recordign of its song in merlin - three high pitched notes - and after one segment it almost responded (?) immediately by flying from the perch where I saw it last land to another tree, also on left side of road, where I coudl see it more clearly. continued to get photos as it moved around 3-4 trees, luckily not staying up too high, and got some good loooks before it eventually flew too far. did not vocalize the enitre time, whole encounter probably 4-5 mins
