Observation details
First pair calling on Northern upslope of Saddleball Ridge. Audio. Second encounter was likely the large flock we found last time we were here. Many birds calling as they flew over: sounding very similar to the ~25 we had last time. Audio of this large group, too. P.S. As we were heading back north a couple hours later the presumed same flock of 20+ birds were feeding right over the trail. Some of the birds were about 10' over my head. We stayed here, often recording audio, for about 20 minutes. I will upload a LOT of audio from this unique gift of an opportunity. Overall, we encountered somewhere between 40-50 RECR on this ridge today. Amazing! P.P.S. It's probably very difficult to hear, but at the time it sounded like at least two birds were singing. MANY different kinds of vocalizations were going on at the same time, so I'm not sure. But, two or three birds consistently sounded like they were making longer, melodic, phrases I've never heard in person before. Hopefully someone at eBird can clarify this. Hope this means breeding is possible here soon. * fingers crossed *
