Observation details
A return visit, for outrageously good views of this continuing mega being a lot more active than last week. No sign during a wander up and down the river during the first forty minutes, although a dog walker reported that it had been in the river a couple of hours previously; flew in from downstream giving three loud, barking 'kWoh!' calls, hoarser and less resonant than Black-crowned. Hunting and preening 75-100m downstream until I left, often at stunningly close range. Actually flew and landed directly below me, where it caught and consumed a Signal Crayfish at about six metres range - the crustacean could still be seen moving in the gullet after consumption. Gnarly.
