Observation details
Perched at top of bare evergreen, at first I assumed it was a broad- tailed. But it seemed a bit different so have been watching for it since this sighting, hoping (unsuccessfully) for a view of purple gorget. Gorget and chin have always appeared black, no sign of red. It has returned over and over again to the same perch, and no familiar broad-tailed wing buzz has been heard. Dark-headed bird with small white patch behind eye. Dark goes right up and above eye, rather than stopping below eye like a broad-tailed, making it look like its wearing a hood. Long black bill, tail appears notched. Smudgy white and gray breast.
