Observation details
Heard only. Merlin picked it up, and I then listened and heard the song that matched those examples in Merlin. In listening to Merlin recording, it appears that it captured the HOLA call twice on the recording. While I would like to have identified this bird, it is possible that a Northern Mocking bird was using its talents to copy this bird. I did take a picture of the bird that I thought was in the area in the field where the sound was originiating and it turned out to be a NOMO. For the NOMO to imitate the song and the call notes of this bird seems remarkable. Some Horned Larks have popped up in the region in recent days--seems relatively late in any case. At about 33 and 49 seconds on the audio the Horned Lark is identified.
