Observation details
Florida man strikes. First county record by Frank Fogarty, PhD., Professor of Ornithology, 4-Others (TM). I arrived in the afternoon, looked for a long while in heavy winds, finally spotted it in the original area where Frank first had it (near the fallen snag at the base of the large cypress). Tony and I had extended looks at it in the small cottonwoods. I did not hear it vocalize, but Tony had heard an EAWP call in the same area awhile before. In comparison to WEWP: lower mandible almost entirely orange, paler below (particularly the belly), upper wingbar as bright as the lower one, and the primary projection appeared shorter than the tail projection. All of these features can be seen in the attached photos. No WEWP were seen or heard during my checklist, and it sounds like others did not have any throughout the day.
