Observation details
Dark juv sat on sea off Netley Castle 7.45-8.40am All skuas are rare in Southampton Water so the sightings of two Arctics moving north and over Southampton Docks yesterday, followed by a juvenile resting on the water for at least an hour today, are unusual. The drizzly murky weather conditions are typical for seeing skuas off here. Presumably they only enter Southampton Water when disorientated due to poor visibility. These sightings coincide with a decent passage of mainly Arctic Skuas off Portland Bill yesterday afternoon and perhaps are linked with the recent storm which was the tail end of hurricane Gonzalo.
