Observation details
Female spotted very close on W side of road at 54.347405, -1.024166 as I drove S 0718. I stopped the car on the roadside and observed from < 50 m. Apparently attempting to take unseen Lagopus lagopus chicks (unseen in tall heather) from a pair of that were actively defending them. Circus dropped several times into the heather and at one point appeared to be tearing at something, but I was unable to see any prey parts swallowed. Finally flew off at 0721 to quarter over a wider area of the moor on W side. Down in heather again near a pair of Numenius 0734. Still visible to SW, harassed by Corvus corone 0740.
