Observation details
Male heard and then seen several times from Tularcitos Trail, first in hemlock where Tularcitos Trail intersects with itself (start of hill), then singing in various patches of vegetation up on the surrounding hills, then at the top of a tall Eucalyptus near Sandy Wool Lake, then with the female as the trail starts to rise rapidly, and finally in a pepper tree at the start of Tularcitos Trail; song resembles House Finch; large bill, dark blue body and head with a few white edges below, chestnut and black wings; female tan colored with similar large bill and body size; see photos.
