Observation details
Continuing rarity that was initially found two days ago by the dynamic duo of Chris Hinkle and Ben Filreis. The bird was reported early on the 7th by the ship watch tower and not reported again until the morning of the 9th at the same location. I first detected it little after 4:00pm when I heard it sing once. I was unable to locate the bird and decided to move to the hawk watch to see if I could possibly find it from that location. At 6:02pm the bird flew into the dead pine tree directly behind the comfort station. It only stay for about a minute and flew down the road towards towards the tire filling station. These looks were underwhelming and my attempt a digiscoping the bird match the looks at that distance. After the bird flew, I moved back over to the parking lot at the comfort station and preceded to look for the bird. At 7:35pm the bird flew in from the east side of the road from the wooded dunes between the parking lot and the hawk watch. It landed on the wire just north of the tire filling station and stayed there for a couple minutes before being scared by a bicyclist. It flew toward the west of the ship watching tower and after a few minutes came back to the wire again write next to the comfort station. It sat at that location until it got flushed again by a group of walkers. The bird is roosting in this area and should likely be easier to see early in the morning and later in the evening as it leaves and returns to the roosting site.
