Media notes
Whoa! Didn’t expect Type 4s here. Heard while doing chores outside, over the drone of the air conditioner; they were probably there for a short bit before I realized it. Saw at least three individuals in the Colorado Blue Spruce that overhangs my yard. Had the presence of mind to drop everything and record them on my phone before they were gone in the instant it took my brain to register first, “Red Crossbills!” and then in the next split second, “not the usual Red Crossbills!!” (which around here are Type 2 [Ponderosa]). 😂 Flight calls (recorded) a drier “pwit-pwit-pwit” sound, with a V-shape on the spectrogram. Sorry for the background A/C (and my pet Cockatiel) in the recording.
