Observation details
WOW. One individual seen for perhaps three seconds, flying out and then back in to the forest canopy about halfway up the forested slopes of the island. Habitat matches what is expected from Japanese Wood Pigeon. Two poor photos were taken, as I currently have no way of transfering photos to the computer I have added even poorer webcam shots of my viewfinder. Photos show what is undeniably a JAWP; dark green/black coloration overall, red feet, long tail, hints of green iridescence on neck, white tip to bill. At first thought to perhaps be a crow due to dark coloration, which explains the Japanese name: "Karasu-Bato" or "Crow dove".
