Observation details
***MEGA | First reported in a yard near the tip of Small Point on May 27. Small Point is a very private community with no public access, though some birders with personal relationships began to work with the landowner to allow one car at a time to her yard to view the bird. Unfortunately, a predator (owl? cat?) killed the ptarmigan on the night of the 29th or morning of the 30th before additional birder access could be worked out. A gorgeous bird, watched at close range calmly eating grass tips and chasing insects on a small patch of lawn directly in front of a private home.
