Observation details
Easily found at Sweetaire and 168th East. One was calling from a bare tree behind a house on the south side of Sweetaire just west of 168th. Then I saw another calling bird along Sweetaire a bit east of 168th; finally, two birds were found on the west side of 168th just north of Sweetaire. The 'no hope' call is distinctive and diagnostic; I managed to see three of the birds -- small, slender doves with long tails (showing much white on the outer rectrices), pale grayish bodies with dark scaling, and noticeable rusty in the wings showing in flight (and even when perched). Photos of two different individuals are attached here. We need a group of masochists to organize an Inca Dove count in Lake L. A. -- walking all of the residential streets on both sides of 170th East (and both north and south fo Avenue O).
