Observation details
Scanning from one of my favorite spots to view a large dead tree, I refer to as the perch tree. It sits right along the shoreline of the main pond, and more often than not, you can find a bird of prey up there. It's also one of the best spots to scan the entire main pond for waterfowl or shorebirds, depending on what kind of weather the year has provided. Today, however, I saw two large white birds hitting the water, not like a herring gull would either. Then I saw an orange / red bill and large black cap. Being lucky enough to have seen this species before at my patch with a friend I knew I had Caspian Terns! Originally, I thought only two birds, but my last sight of them flying off in the distance, there were three birds of same size build and shape flying off together. I believe there were 2 adults and 1 juvenile. Also birds were being vocal!!Photos
