Media notes
AMKE nest site on the lower hole in the pole, just above the wire.
Observation details
A female and male AMKE were observed as they repeatedly visited a poplar tree. This was thought to be a probable nesting site. However today on this checklist we waited patiently near a hydro pole with two large holes in it. The female flew from the poplar tree to the east and circled several times near our position. She then landed in a small tree directly west of the pole, about 15 meters away. The female AMKE was then observed as she flew up to the pole with the nest site, then with a momentary fluttering of the wings, feet extended, she then deftly entered the lower of the two holes in the pole. She remained in the nest site as we quietly drove by it. The male remained in the poplar tree to the east of the highway. Confirmed nest site.
