Observation details
A surprise bonus with the flamingo, flying away to the west in the sky, as we walked over from Beach Lane. First assumption when seeing an all-white, medium-size bird at this time of year was that it was an egret, but when we raised our bins we were surprised to see it was a gull. The bird was a little far before we finally got it in focus, but photos look better for subadult Iceland Gull than subadult Glaucous Gull (note that the bill in all photos looks pretty dark, and only slightly paler at the base, rather than pink or yellow), and the combination of the date and the location also slightly favor Iceland. Thanks also to the others who looked at the photos, all of whom agreed with our initial impressions.
