Observation details
Beautiful female in breeding plumage. Thin, sharp bill, ash-grey above with straw-coloured mantle, white throat and white patch above the eye and a bright red area on the neck-sides and upper throat. I consulted with fellow birders to pinpoint the phalarope’s location. They advised keeping an eye on the field beyond the pond, where it frequently returned to the west shore near the ducks. After a brief wait, the phalarope reappeared, lingering for just two minutes—enough time for me to observe it closely and capture a photo.
